What is meditative therapy?
In meditative therapy, we work together to understand your needs and respond to them with the combined tools of traditional meditation practices and modern psychotherapy. You can read more about exactly what happens in sessions here, including details about a free first meeting.
Why is meditative therapy different?
A Korean-born Zen practitioner and facilitator, while undertaking my psychotherapeutic training I was struck by how meditation and therapy complement each other. The language and tools of psychotherapy are powerful forces for naming and exploring the issues and psychological processes that bring us to therapy. However, in Western therapies it is common to feel strong, difficult feelings between sessions as you process the emotions that arise: this is why you are often warned when beginning therapy that things will ‘get worse before they get better’. This is where we are different: the traditional meditation practices we explore with you will equip you with further tools for working through the issues you bring to therapy, but crucially they will also provide structure and support for your daily life as you work through difficult feelings between sessions. The practice we develop together will thus be one unique to you, your circumstances and the particular meditative practices which chime with you.
